What is Hermes?
Hermes is our family's own AI assistant — like ChatGPT, but it lives on Dad's home server and you talk to it right inside Telegram, the same way you'd text a friend. Ask it questions, get help with homework, plan things, look stuff up, brainstorm ideas. It runs on Claude (a very capable AI), it remembers context within your chat, and each person gets their own private conversation.
hermes.m5so.com — you don't need it to chat.
Watch this first (about 5 minutes)
New to Telegram bots? This short video shows how to find your Telegram ID and get going. The steps below cover everything too, so watch only if you'd like to see it done.
Get started in 3 steps
- Install Telegram on your phone (App Store / Google Play) and create an account with your phone number. It also works on Mac, Windows, and the web at web.telegram.org — same login on every device.
- Tell Dad you're ready. Before the assistant will talk to you, Dad has to add you to the approved list. To do that he needs your Telegram ID number — see the next section for how to get it.
- Open the assistant and say hi. Once Dad says you're added, search for @HERMES_MOCK7CRUSHERS_BOT in Telegram, tap it, press the Start button at the bottom, and send a message like "Hi, who are you?"
How to send Dad your Telegram ID
Your Telegram ID is just a number (not your @username). Here's the 30-second way to get it:
- In Telegram, tap the search box and type
userinfobot. - Open the result called userinfobot and press Start.
- It instantly replies with your info. Find the line that says
Id: followed by a number (for example
Id: 8884813418). - Send Dad that number (text it to him), along with your name. That's it — he'll add you, and then the assistant will answer you.
How to actually use it
Once Dad has added you and you've pressed Start on @HERMES_MOCK7CRUSHERS_BOT, just type like you're texting a person. You don't need special commands. Ask a question, describe what you want, or paste something and ask about it. It'll reply in a few seconds.
- Keep a topic going: it remembers the recent back-and-forth in your chat, so you can say "make it shorter" or "now do the same for Spanish" without re-explaining.
- Start fresh: if you want a clean slate, just tell it "let's start a new topic."
- Slash commands (optional): type
/helpto see extras like/status. You almost never need these — plain chatting is the point.
Fun & useful things to try
| If you want to… | Try typing… |
|---|---|
| Get homework help | "Explain how photosynthesis works like I'm 12, with a simple example." |
| Check your writing | "Fix the grammar and make this paragraph clearer: <paste your text>" |
| Math, step by step | "Walk me through solving 3x + 7 = 22, one step at a time." |
| Plan something | "Help me plan a birthday party for 10 people on a $100 budget." |
| Cook with what you have | "I have chicken, rice, and broccoli — give me a simple dinner recipe." |
| Settle a debate | "What's the difference between a crocodile and an alligator?" |
| Get unstuck creatively | "Give me 5 ideas for a science fair project about water." |
| Practice a language | "Quiz me on 10 beginner Spanish words, one at a time." |
| Summarize something long | "Summarize this article in 3 bullet points: <paste>" |
Tips & etiquette
- Be specific. "Help with my essay" works, but "make this intro paragraph more exciting without changing the facts" works much better.
- It can be wrong. AI sometimes makes mistakes or makes things up. Double-check anything important (facts, math, dates) — don't paste its answers into homework without reading them.
- It's not a person. It's a helpful tool. Be kind, but you don't have to be formal.
- Your chat is private to you — your brothers don't see your conversation.
Staying safe
- Don't share secrets. No passwords, full credit-card numbers, or Social Security numbers — to the assistant or anyone.
- Tell Mom or Dad if anything ever feels off, confusing, or upsetting.
- Only the people Dad approves can use it. If a friend wants to try it, ask Dad first — don't share the login or forward the bot.
